The Lucid Artists

A female-founded collective pioneering dramatic art with impact: primal, innovative and liberating storytelling that elevates the female narrative.

Actor to creator

The Lucid Artists grew out of a wish to elevate female narratives and to give actors a supportive space to move from actor to creator, nurturing talent into full fruition.

The devising space is one of absolute safety, where untold stories can begin to take shape. Each woman brings her own skills, dedication and nuances to the project: the light and the dark.

“We begin with instinct, curiosity, subconscious drives and conscious offerings… It could be exquisite or nasty, loaded with meaning or superfluous with frivolity. And we're here for all of it. Our creativity is our gold.”

— Ashlie Walker

The One Woman Project

The first round of research and development took place in 2023. A small cohort of three actors and one director created three distinct but interlinked one-woman plays. Each is a psychological drama exploring hard-hitting topics, drawn from lived experience. They feature actors Lauren Cooney, Fernanda Lippi and Emma Saunders, and were co-created and directed by Ashlie Walker.

Landslide

Landslide was shared at Playhouse East's work-in-progress night, featuring Lauren Cooney and directed by Ashlie Walker. A darkly funny piece where no one emerges unscathed, it is in further development.
